I've been playing for almost 2 years and have done a few gigs and so on, so I would say that it isn't too difficult to pick up if you have the passion for it. Good luck! If you practice for a couple hours every day at least, you should become pretty good within a month, granted your teacher teaches you the appropriate stuff. I've seen teachers just teach students how to play songs at their request, never scales, modes, etc. That really depends on you.
